Guided Bus Cycleway not quite as perfect as it first seemed

Posted on 2011/10/20. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , |

(There’s an exiting headline for you!) So after a couple of weeks using the busway to get some extra riding in I have a few grumbles, although they won’t stop me using it. One grumble is that on many of the bends the cyclepath drops to below the busway level, putting your eyes more or [...]

Pavement Superman

Todays thoughts are “Ow!” and “Actually, I was quite lucky”.  Recently when heading from Horningsea in to Fen Diton I’ve been using the new cycle path.  I still don’t like using it because it puts you against traffic (crossing the two A14 sliproads, and crossing to the right to get on it leaving Horningsea) rather [...]

Catch up

What’ve I been up to then… Finally got a few rides in that we more than a commute.  A good – wind-assisted – ride via Dry Drayton, the coming down the ramp from the A14 bridge gets some good speed up.  A less good – knowingly in to the wind – unknowingly resurfaced – ride [...]

Nothing interesting to report

Posted on 2011/05/24. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I moved house, hopefully I get to stay in this one for a while, but it does mean that I get to go a little further along the busy bit of the main road through our village every day on the way home from work.  It’s one of those horrible roads where you either get [...]

Garmin, maintenance, and windy weather

Posted on 2011/04/01. Filed under: Bike changes, Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

My Garmin Edge 705 has been crashing recently.  It only seems to do it as I set off home from work (about 4:15pm).  Sometimes it restarts itself, a couple of times it has completely locked – apparently dead, nothing on the screen at all – and needed a ‘soft reset’ to get it working again.  [...]

Battered arse and learner drivers

Posted on 2010/09/07. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , |

I’ll admit I’m a road cyclist (even if my bike isn’t quite), but I have been off road on occasion.  I can quite honestly say though, the most arse-battering surface I can remember riding my bike on is the red-tarmaced cycle lane on Kings Hedges Road in Cambridge.  It’s the one on the outside of [...]

Cycling Sorted?

I don’t know how well it will work, but I’m going to give this a try http://www.cyclingsorted.org/.  Cambridge only, but it should give people a say in what cycling facilities get improved.  I hope it’s being advertised enough.  I heard of it through Road.cc despite having taken part in other Cycle Cambridge things and giving [...]

Histon and Kings Hedges Road

Posted on 2010/09/02. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , |

I deliberately set off for work early so I could go the longer way and have more of a ride.  I got a pleasant surprise in Histon: it looks like they’ve widened the cycle lane and put a hatched area between it and motor traffic on the humpback bridge over the old railway line (guided [...]

Tour of Britain 2010

Posted on 2010/08/31. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

The Tour of Britain is starting soon, and for the first time I’m intending to watch it for real (even though everyone says the best place to see a bike race is on TV). Stage 3 ends in Swansea, with a notable feature being Constitution Hill.  My in-laws live in Swansea, whenever we visit them [...]

Catch up (again)

Posted on 2010/06/05. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I’ve let more than a week go by again.  Saturday last it looked like rain in the afternoon, so I extended the return journey from the papershop in the morning.  This seems a good way to get a ride in and I’ll try and do it more often.  I managed to come home from Milton [...]
