Fitness drop already?

A month ago I got a puncture on the Tricross, because I had a lot on at the time I didn’t – and still haven’t – fixed it.  I switch to the Bolinas Ridge, partly because it was rideable and partly because I can get more lights on it now the days are short.  A [...]

Raising Saddles

Posted on 2010/10/07. Filed under: Bike changes, Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

Every so often I decide that I could push the saddle a bit higher up on one bike or another.  Hopefully this reduces the angle that my knees bend to, taking some of the force of them (I have a slightly dodgy right knee), whilst also making me flatten my body a little more to [...]

How Much Fitter Am I?

Posted on 2010/10/03. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , |

I was never ‘unfit’, just average.  I was overweight, but saying “muscle is heavier than fat” and “BMI is a rule of thumb” and other similar excuses.  Then, because of riding a bike (before I started cycling, if you know what I mean), I got a bit fitter and lost some weight.  Then I got [...]

Catch up (again)

Posted on 2010/06/05. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I’ve let more than a week go by again.  Saturday last it looked like rain in the afternoon, so I extended the return journey from the papershop in the morning.  This seems a good way to get a ride in and I’ll try and do it more often.  I managed to come home from Milton [...]

Bad knee week

Less tests than expected

Posted on 2010/03/08. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , |

I seem to have been distracted and not blogged for a bit.  I did the Fenland Fitness study thing last week.  They didn’t give me a VO2 max test, which was disappointing.  I asked and they said they didn’t have enough equipment to get through the number of volunteers they’ve had so they’re skipping it [...]

Fenland Fitness Tomorrow

Posted on 2010/03/02. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , |

I’m off to the hospital tomorrow to take part in the Fenland Fitness Study that I may have mentioned earlier.  I’ll get to know my body fat percentage by DEXA and ultrasound, do something on a treadmill with a mask on (so probably find my VO2 max), and get to wear some sort of tracking [...]

Body composition DXA scan, Ultrasound, VO2 max, free? I must reply!

I’ve had a letter from the Institute of Metabolic Science at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, which isn’t too far from here.  The MRC Epidemiology Unit is doing a study of lifestyle and health and wants people of my age group (I’m at the younger end) living nearby to take part.  For the small cost of a bit [...]
