More cycleway – and purchase pondering

The other half is more in to cycling and less in to rowing than she was this time last year, mainly due to a little injury.  This basically means we have a semi-regular Saturday morning cake run to St Ives and a mid-week ‘how far can we get before we have to turn back’ on [...]

Little nagging things

Posted on 2011/09/02. Filed under: Bike changes, Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

I haven’t done anything exciting recently, hence not blogging anything.  My Garmin Edge 705 developed a little, occasional, fault about once I’d had it for about 13 months.  I was about to go on holiday so I waited until i got back to do anything about it.  It got gradually worse and completely unreliable (it would [...]

Puncture, and Ridge retirement?

Posted on 2011/05/31. Filed under: Bike changes, Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I was about to go to work this morning, but the front of the Tricross had a flat.  I’ve spent the last week thinking it’s about to go as I’ve had that judder when I brake, but it has always seemed hard (and since I’m having trouble getting the pump on the 38mm valves now [...]

Nothing interesting to report

Posted on 2011/05/24. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I moved house, hopefully I get to stay in this one for a while, but it does mean that I get to go a little further along the busy bit of the main road through our village every day on the way home from work.  It’s one of those horrible roads where you either get [...]

Boycotts and temptations

Posted on 2010/10/01. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , |

Grr.  I’m at the point where I’m thinking about getting a new bike, probably at the start of next spring.  I currently have a Mountain Bike that I’ve grown to like less because I have a cyclo-cross bike that I really like (even though I never take either off road).  So I think the next [...]

Untimely rim death

Posted on 2010/09/16. Filed under: Bike changes, Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

So tomorrow I’m intending to cycle to Foxearth and Ballingdon to watch a couple of King of the Mountains points on stage 7 of the Tour or Britain 2010.  This will be about a 140km round trip, and the most I’ve done in a single day.  Last week, actually for a few weeks before that [...]

Not enjoying Bolinas Ridge again

Posted on 2010/09/16. Filed under: Bike changes, Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , |

Don’t get me wrong I like the Bolinas Ridge.  It was a very nice bike but I’ve outgrown it.  I’m pretty certain I mentioned this before, it’s a 15″ frame and I wanted a 16″ frame but could only get it in 15″ or 17″.  I chose the 15″ as I hadn’t yet got myself [...]

Tour of Britain 2010

Posted on 2010/08/31. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

The Tour of Britain is starting soon, and for the first time I’m intending to watch it for real (even though everyone says the best place to see a bike race is on TV). Stage 3 ends in Swansea, with a notable feature being Constitution Hill.  My in-laws live in Swansea, whenever we visit them [...]

Wednesday rides?

Posted on 2010/05/26. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , |

I decided to do a decent length ride during the week now that the evenings are light.  Wednesday seemed the clearest day for this.  In the three weeks since I decided to do this I’ve done it once.  Something always comes up.  Today, I needed to do the derailleur tweaks that are in another post, [...]

Soap Scum

Posted on 2010/04/29. Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I did a more or less tuned to meeting the weeks Garmin Connect goal ride last Sunday (route here).  Originally I’d intended to use the perimeter road of an old airbase that I’d spotted on a map as a circuit to do some laps, but when I got there it was a private road so I [...]
